Doug Karo is a Partner and Executive Recruiter in Relate Search’s Human Resources practice, bringing a distinctive blend of entrepreneurial experience and executive search expertise to his work. Prior to joining Relate Search, Doug held key roles including Recruiting Director at The Christopher Group and Executive Recruiter at Korn Ferry and MRI Network, where he built a strong foundation in both retained and contingent search. His recruiting career began at MRI Network, marking the start of a path defined by growth, adaptability, and a deep understanding of HR leadership.

 

Before transitioning into recruiting, Doug was a business owner, operating a food truck and restaurant. That experience, shaped by high stakes and constant decision-making, continues to influence his approach today. It instilled a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and a big-picture mindset that he brings to every search. Doug is known for looking beyond the obvious, often evaluating leadership needs through a strategic lens to align the right talent with the right environment.

 

Doug specializes in Human Resources leadership, partnering with organizations to place top talent across roles such as CHROs, Chief People Officers, Heads of Total Rewards, HR Business Partners, and Directors of Strategy. His experience spans a wide range of industries including manufacturing, retail, biotech, medical device, entertainment, nonprofit, and private equity-backed organizations. He is passionate about building authentic relationships and believes the best outcomes come from honest, meaningful conversations that uncover what truly drives both clients and candidates.

 

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Doug is now based in Carlsbad, California. Outside of work, he enjoys running along the beach, traveling, watching movies, and following sports. He and his wife of 19 years have four children — Tristen, Melina, Nalah, and Brielle — and a spaniel named Lava.
